7.3.- The problem of electronic waste

Prompts for Discussion:

  1. If we had known about the environmental effects of e-waste earlier, how do you think things would be different today?
Possible answer: "If people had known how dangerous e-waste is, we wouldn’t have so many toxic landfills today."
  2. If more people recycled their old phones and computers, how would that affect the environment in the future?
Possible answer: "If people recycled more, we would have less pollution and fewer resources wasted."
  3. If countries had passed stricter e-waste laws 20 years ago, would the situation be different today?
Possible answer: "If countries had done that, there wouldn’t be as much e-waste in developing countries now."
  4. If you had the power to change one thing about how we dispose of electronics, what would it be? Use a mixed conditional to explain.
Possible answer: "If I could change one thing, I would introduce more recycling programs, so that we would have less e-waste in the future."
  5. What could we have done in the past to prevent the current e-waste crisis?
Possible answer: "If we had designed electronics to be easier to recycle, we wouldn’t be facing this crisis now."
